CFL Week 8 Preview

Hughes sports podcast cfl week 8 review.

What a week in the CFL. I didn’t get to watch all the games (away on holidays), but I did read up and wow what a crazy week.   Going to do this a little different this week.  I am not going to do individual game review, rather just look at the week in general.  Lets start at the beginning.  Bo started the game against Ottawa and even though he tossed 5 interceptions he managed to hold on to a slim 4 pt lead with only a few minutes left.  What he was doing in the game is questionable, why he didn’t just take a knew is insane, what ever the answer is for either question Bo once again got hurt and this time it is serious.  He broke his leg and will be out for a while, now the question is how long, and will he ever return to the Bo Levi Mitchell we all got to know. Oh, Hamilton won.  And truthfully that was about as good as it got for entire week. Riders came into Toronto and as expected they got their asses handed to them courtesy of Chad Kelly.  Toronto is still the best in the league at 6 and 0.  BC went to Edmonton, oh man there are issues in Edmonton.  Tied for the worse home losing streak in all pro sports heading into this one, Edmonton was looking for anything positive, unfortunately there wasn’t ANYTHING positive for the Elks.  Not only did they not get the ball in the red zone (inside the 20-yard line) the once again didn’t score a single point. The Elks now own the record for the most home straight home losses at 21, only team in the CFL to be shut out twice by thew same team in a single season. It is a sad situation in Edmonton.  The have now lost 12 straight dating back to last season.  They demoted their Offensive Coordinator, and promoted Jarious Jackson to OC.  Will this help?  Time will tell but I think it is too late for this season. The final game of the weekend was Calgary at Montreal. The Stamps dropped to 2 and 5 after dropping this one 25 to 18.  I half watched this one and truthfully it was a boring game.  The Stamps need to figure out this out quickly or they will be on the outside looking in when the playoffs roll around. Speaking of the playoffs, will this be the year an Eastern team will cross over to the West?  This could happen if Riders, Stamps and Elks will continue the track they are on.  What a bizarre 1st half of the season.

Week 9 is looking to be the opposite of week 8.  Week 8 was boring (and that’s being nice) week 9 looks to be the best week of the season. It starts with BC heading to Winnipeg to see if the early win was a fluke or are they really that good.  This will be the game of the week!   Take BC but it will be CLOSE.   Then Toronto Comes to Cowtown to take on the Stamps.  This is a must win game for the Stamps, yes, I said it.  If the Stamps lose, we will see massive changes in Calgary.  Take the Argo’s it won’t be close.  Saturday brings the Alouettes into Steel Town.  Biggest question will how the Ticats will be without Bo AGAIN. With Mitchell and Shiltz on the 6 game IR list, Powell will have to step in and show us what he has.   I am taking Montreal in this one. Fajardo has been damn good this year and I feel he will put up huge numbers in this game.  Enjoy the weekend of games and remember take a friend to a game, lets grow this game we all love.
