The Final 6 Weeks of the CFL!

What a few weeks in the CFL, Labour Day and the Labour Day Rematch has passed us by and to me, now the real season begins.  Let’s look where we are at in the CFL and what could potentially happen in the Last 6 weeks.

The Eastern Division

Starting in the east as it is simpler.  Finishing in 1st gives you a bye into the CFL Divisional Finals.  Well, Toronto has basically locked that up, at 10 and 1 they are a lock to finish 1st in the east.  2nd place is still up for grabs.  Montreal and Hamilton will be fighting for that coveted 2nd spot and home field advantage for the east semi final game.  Montreal is 6 an 6 and Hamilton is 5 and 7 so truly it is up for grabs.

The question that needs to be answered is will there be a cross over this year.

For those new to the CFL if a 4th place team finishes with more wins than their counterpart in the other division they can cross over and take that play off spot. The Stamps are in 4th place in the west at 4 and 9, so can it happen again this year yes it can. Will it? I don’t think it will and truth be told I hope it doesn’t. The CFL needs Hamilton in the play offs the year they host the Grey Cup. I would love to see a Hamilton at Toronto East final, to help the excitement in Hamilton.   With the bottom 3 teams in the east having 6 games left, it will be a race to see who takes the 2nd and 3rd spot.  Unfortunately, I think The Ottawa Redblacks need to be looking at what they can change for next year. Sitting at 3 wins pretty much takes them out of the picture.

My Eastern prediction is as follows:

  1. Toronto Argonauts
  2. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
  3. Montreal Alouettes

The Western Division

The west on the other hand has nothing at all settled.  Winnipeg thought they might run away with 1st, BC had other things planned.  Going into the final 6 games BC is only 2 games behind them and has one game in hand. It really looks like it will come down to Oct 6th when the Blue Bombers head to BC.  Winner of that game has the advantage to take home field for the West Final.  Bomber fans seem awful sure it will be them; Lions fan are holding our collective breath.  Behind the top 2 we have the Riders, Stamps and Elks in that order.  Truthfully 3rd is up for grabs.  Elks seem to be on a bit of a roll, seemingly having found their qb1. Is Tre Ford QB 1?  He can sure run the ball but in this league, you need an arm.  Tre hasn’t shown that he has that tool in his belt yet. The Stamps, in the writer’s opinion, still haven’t figured out Jake Maier isn’t their #1 QB.  The Riders I feel have the best shot at keeping the #3 spot.

My predictions for the west

  1. BC Lions
  2. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
  3. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Remember enjoy the game we all love and take a friend to a game!!!!
