Week 4 Review

Late with my week 4 review.  I wanted to get it done 4 days ago and life happened and so You get it today…….

Pretty short week for week 4 of the 2023 CFL season with just 3 games on the docket.  Let’s jump into it

Game 1 saw what I have heard called the toilet bowl game,  two winless teams with the Elks heading into Ottawa.  Now I flipped a coin with my pick em chose and I took Edmonton. Well in true Elks fashion, they let the “Old Man” down and lost their 4th of the season as Ottawa won their 1st of the season.  The final score was 26 to 7 but truthfully neither team looked that great. I am starting to feel bad for Elks fans as they haven’t seen a team this bad in their entire history. How much longer will Elks owner, Mr Cui let this disaster continue before stepping in and firing someone?  Chris Jones has to know his days might be numbered with the Elks if her doesn’t turn this around quickly

Game 2 saw Winnipeg head into Montreal to face the undefeated Alouettes. I really thought Montreal would be ready for the angry Bombers, but man did they lay down for this one. Winnipeg took them behind the woodshed and beat the a$$3s, winning easily 17 to 3.  Winnipeg had something to prove and after a 2-hour weather delay to start this one, they proved they are still in the top three in this league.

Game 3 saw my fav’s BC Lions head into Toronto for what used to be called The Braley Bowl back in the day. ( David Braley owned both The BC Lions and the Argos.)  I was looking forward to this one and when BC took the 1st drive into the endzone to take an early lead, I felt confident that BC would be on their A game. Well, it all went downhill from there. I have never seen a QB have a worse game. Vernon Adams Jr tossed 6 interceptions 4 of which resulted in TO scoring 4 TD’s off them.  I could see the panic in VA’s eyes as the game went on and it just kept getting worse.  I have heard a lot of folks saying VA showed his real colours this game, well I hope they are wrong.  It wasn’t a case of Adams not being able to move the ball, he racked up 388 yards in passing.  His passing accuracy was at 77% coming into this game, with a non-impressive 24/39 (61%) this will drop his rating.  The Lions ended up being handed their 1st loss of the season losing 24 to 45.  Toronto has improved their record to 3 and 0 being the only team left that is undefeated.

Looking forward to week 5, we have a full 4 games ready to go.   My picks are as follows:

As I type this the Thursday game has already been played but I won’t review it till next week and will tell you I took The Riders to win.  Friday sees Calgary goes into Smurf Mafia territory to take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  I am taking the Bombers but man it would be fun to see the Stamps kick their asses. Not that I dislike the Bombers, it’s their fans.  Not all of them, I know lots of really awesome Bomber Fans but they have a contingent of fans that are obnoxious, those are the ones I refer to as The Smurf Mafia.  (Jake actually designed a hoodie to sell to the Mafia  Click Here to see it ). Saturday brings the Ottawa Redblacks into Hamilton. I am taking Ottawa for this one as Hamilton is in rough shape with their “Star” qb out still.  This one is really a coin flip.  Both teams have been struggling so it might be the sleeper of the week as they both of something to prove.  Sunday Game 4 see’s Montreal heading across the country to play in the dome in Vancouver to face the Lions.  Obviously, I am taking my BC Lions but when I heard the spread I was shocked. The lions are favored by 7.5, I really think this one will be closer. I am saying Lions by a FG.    Enjoy the games all.
