Brock Boeser Steals the Show in Season Opener

Edmonton @ Vancouver Oct. 11

The pre-game ceremony was the least interesting thing about this game and that is saying something because anytime Trevor Linden is back at Rogers Arena it’s newsworthy!

Connor Garland and Brock Boeser, the Find a Trade Duo, really came out with a chip on their shoulder. Garland scored a beautiful goal to get the ‘Nucks on the board early!

The next three goals in a row was from Brock Boeser including this intentional off the foot goal from what looked to be a pass back to the point from EP40.

This is the first Natural Hattrick for a season Opener by any Canuck and the night was just getting busy, after Jack Campbell let in the 4th goal of a very young season. He was given the hook and Stuart Skinner was on the case.

Shortly after that last years most lethal Powerplay finally got things going with Draisaitl sitting in his office and scoring at an angle I don’t think many players would even try to shoot from. But that’s the only one that the Oilers were able to muster against a Canucks team that was shorthanded and dealing with the flu. With around 10 minutes left, Thatcher Demko, seemed to pull himself from the game for an unkown reason. Later it was confirmed by head coach Rick Tocchet that Demko was dealing with the Flu, and was pulled after vomiting in his mask during the game. Swayman came in and continued the same performance as we saw Brock score his 4th, JT Miller Score his first of the year on the PowerPlay then Dakota Joshua cleaning up a rebound for a final score of 8-1.

Takeaways:

While this was just the first game, the Rick Tocchet structure seemed to give the Canucks a way to exit the defensive end without just throwing it down the ice PLUS a Penalty Kill that actually looks active out there. A big game on Saturday just got bigger with this blowout.
