Update: 1:18 PST

The London Police Service have announced that there will be a press conference to discuss everything Feb. 5th. We will post the link to the presser when it’s live!

Update: 9:15AM PST
The New Jersey Devils have announced that Michael McLeod and Cal Foote have also requested Indefinite Leave as well bringing the total number to 5 which matches the Globe and Mail report.

Original Story: According to a report from the Globe and Mail, 5 Players from the 2018 World Junior Championship Gold Medal team are to surrender to face charges of Sexual Assault.

The five players, yet to face charges, remain unidentified at this point. The impending charges arise from an alleged group sexual assault on a woman in June 2018, following a Hockey Canada gala in London that celebrated their team’s victory six months prior in Buffalo.

The specific date for the players’ appearance in London is unclear, although the Globe has reported that they have been given a designated time to report to the London Police Service headquarters.

Initially, London Police investigated the alleged sexual assault, closing the case without charges in 2019. However, the alleged victim pursued a civil suit, subsequently revealed by TSN to have been quietly settled by Hockey Canada for a substantial amount. This controversy engulfed the organization, resulting in a complete overhaul of the Board of Directors and leadership, coupled with increased government scrutiny.

Following subsequent reporting, London Police reopened their investigation in 2022, leading to the recent announcement of pending charges against the five players on Wednesday.

In the last few days we have seen 3 different players who were on the team leave their professional teams on “Indefinite Leave’s” which has the hockey world assuming they are involved. Alex Formenton, Playing for HC Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland is the most recent to announce his leave joining Dillon Dube and Carter Hart.

This story is still developing, check back as we update this with more information.
