CFL Week 12 Review

Cfl week 12 review.

CFL week 12 was a busy week in The Old Man’s house, but I managed to take 3 of the 4 games or at least most those games.  Let’s jump in and chat about the week that was.

Game 1 had Cody Fajardo’s Montreal Alouettes travelling to a sold-out IG Field in Winnipeg to face the West leading Blue Bombers.

It wasn’t a great start to the game for Winnipeg’s QB Zach Collaros as he tossed 2 pick 6’s and then added an additional interception for 3 in the 1st half yet were still able to hold onto a 3-point lead going into half time. The 2nd half was completely different for the bombers racking up 27 unanswered points and taking a well earned 47 17 win putting them in the drivers seat for 1st in the west.

Game 2 saw the struggling Calgary Stampeders take on the #1 team in the league Toronto Argonauts.

This one was the best game of the weekend.  It was a heavy weight battle that saw each team toss the ball long and often. Toronto took a 24 to 21 lead into half time.  The team’s exchanged TD’s in the 3rd with the stamps adding in a FG to tie the game with 1 quarter to play.  Toronto was the only team to mange to score a TD in the 4th and added in the CFL fans favorite single pt rouge to take the win 39 to 31 win and remain on top of the league with a 8 and 1.

Game 3 took the Hamilton Ticats to BC to face the Lions.

This was supposed to be a bounce back game for the Lions after being embarrassed by the riders last week. Well, the Ticats had other plans and once again the Lions were not prepared for what Hamilton put on the field. BC was not in this game from the opening whistle and only managed a FG in the 1st half and trailed by 7 going into the 2nd half.  Unfortunately for the Lions the Ticats put up double the pts the struggling Lions were able to put up. With the final score being 30 to 13.  Yes, another embarrassing outing for the Lions.  We need to get it together before the head into Montreal next week. They were once fights for 1st and if they don’t get it together, they will be faced with a fight to host a playoff game.

The final game of the week saw the Elks once again trying to break the 22-game home losing streak, hosting the Ottawa Redblacks.

Tre Ford got his 2nd straight start after logging the Elks 1st win of the season last week. The 1st quarter started off really slow with the Redblacks only managing a rouge to take a 1 pt lead.  Quarter 2 seem to light a fire under Ford and the Elks added 17 pts while Ottawa only managed to add another rouge and a FG to give Edmonton a 17 to 5 lead heading into the 2nd half. I am sure I wasn’t the only one thinking how will the Elks blow this one?  The Redblacks added a Field Goal in the 3rd while the Elks managed to add another TD and a FG to take a commanding 27 to 8 lead into the final 15 minutes of the game.  Even with a 19pt lead I still felt the Elks could lose this one. The Redblacks added 13 points and had 2 minute to play with, I thought oh no here we go again.  27 to 20, 2 minutes to go, this one isn’t over.  Tre Ford took the ball with determination and drove the field to put the Elks within FG range and sealed the deal away to give the Elks their 1st home win in 23 games, breaking what is a new record at 0 and 22 at home, a record that they will own for many decades, I am sure.  Tre Ford had proven to the entire league is a QB to be taken seriously.
