Week 2 CFL Recap & Week 3 Predictions

Week 2 of the 2023 CFL season is in the books, it might not have been the best showing of the CFL game, but truthfully, I enjoyed ALL the games. The entertainment value of all four games was good. Were the games the best the league has to offer? Not even close. Let’s recap Week 2 and get Week 3 predictions!

Game One Thursday night

Calgary at Ottawa

After looking rather flat in week one against the Lions, Calgary had a good bounce back, beating the home team 26-15. The Stamps still have a long way to go to prove that they will be playoff contenders this year. Maier had a better game than week one, going 22 for 33, racking up 332 yards in the air—still a lot of questions on the stampeder team. Ottawa drops to 0 and 2, and it is looking like it is going to be a LOOOOOONG year for this team.

Game Two Friday Night

Winnipeg at Saskatchewan

I was really looking forward to this game, and it was the game of the week. The score (Winnipeg 45 Sask 27) did not tell the true story of the game. The Riders hung tough with the Bomber for the 1st half trailing by a FG at halftime. Even after three quarters of play, the Bombers only held a slim 4-point lead. It all fell apart in the fourth, with the bombers outscoring the Riders 14 to 3 in the final frame to better their record to 2 and 0. If you read FB comments, you would think the Bombers dominated all game, but facts actually matter in sports, and truthfully, the Riders played a great game and showed the Bombers can be beaten.

Game Three Saturday Night

Elks at BC

The home opener for the BC Lions, LL Cool J did a one-hour concert pregame. The Lions had a viewing party Friday night for the Winnipeg vs Riders game in front of BC Place. The TSN panel was at the viewing party. BC knows how to throw a home opening party! As for the game, it wasn’t BC’s best game ever, but they did what they needed to do WIN. And WIN big they did, shutting out Edmonton 22 nothing. This was the 1st time in 47 years that Edmonton was kept off the scoreboard. Lots of fans are bagging on the Lions as they only scored one TD, and Sean Whyte kicked 5 FG. To me, a win is a win. No secret I am a massive BC Lions fan, and you can call me a homer when a team racks up over 400 yards and holds their opponents to 139 total offence, that is a GREAT GAME

Game Four Sunday Night

Hamilton at Toronto

This was the Argo’s 1st game of the season (week one bye), and they held their banner-raising ceremony in front of their hometown fans. All eyes were focused on Bo Levi Mitchell. Would he bounce back after a lacklustre performance in game one. Well, four down, Bo was anything but spectacular. He went 16 for 24 before he was hit (LIGHTLY, I WILL ADD) and came up limping and holding onto his {REDACTED} (Jake says I cannot use that word in my articles). It has been announced that he is out for week three with a groin injury. Truthfully Bo looked horrible in his 2nd start with Hamilton, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he rides the bench for a few games even when he is ready to go. Toronto picked up where they left off in the Grey Cup game (Yes, Smurf mafia, they beat you) and showed they will be the team to beat in the East. Chad Kelly looked good going 14/23 racking up 238 yards in passing, adding 110 rush yards. It will be interesting to see if Montreal can stay close to Toronto.

Week 3 is going to be a blast to watch.

Thursday, we have the two undefeated western teams battling as BC heads to Winnipeg. The winner will have early bragging rights. To say I might be a little excited for this one is putting it mildly. BC has to come out and play a lot better than they did against the weaker Elks. Vernon Adams Jr. will need to prove he is the future of the Lions. Take the Lions in this one; Friday, we have Montreal heading into Hamilton. With four down Bo sidelined, I am picking Montreal. Saturday night Football sees The Riders coming to Cowtown to take on the Stamps. This one will be interesting to watch. Both teams are 1 and 1. Both teams are going to be fighting for a playoff spot. This should be a very entertaining game. I am taking the Riders. To wrap up the week, Toronto is coming into Edmonton to face the Elks, who haven’t won at home since dinosaurs roamed the earth. My pick em says I am taking Toronto, but my heart really wants to see the Elks end this horrendous home streak.

That is a wrap for week 2 GO LIONS GO!!!!! Join our CFL Pick ‘EM
