CFL Power Rankings: Week 3

We’re back at it for the 3rd week of the CFL Power Rankings. After a controversial, although correct based on stats, week 2. There has been a ton of movement on the rankings this week. The Lions continued their defensive domination of teams, Montreal showed up, and Toronto decided to be a contender. Let’s take a look at these rankings.

  1. BC Lions (3-0): While this was the match-up the league, the pundits and the fans were looking forward to, the Lion’s defence showed precisely why I placed them first last week. Holding the Blue Bombers to 235 Yards of total offence and holding them to two field goals in the first half, the BC Lions are here to play and probably have the best defence in years.
  2.  Montreal Alouettes (2-0): With a point differential (Which last week I placed a LOT of importance on) of +33 and showing that a Bo Levi Mitchel-less Hamilton is just subpar, I made them pay and looked well doing it. Only 349 yards but scored enough to beat the TiCats.
  3.  Toronto Argonauts (2-0): The last of the undefeated teams. Beating the Elks isn’t hard for most teams, but they made it look interesting until the 4th Quarter. With all things being equal, Montreal is the better team in the East. But it’s still early in the season, and Chad Kelly only has 2 Starts and is looking to be better.
  4.  Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-1): Being held to 235 yards and 2 FGs. The Blue Bombers were made to look average by the Lion’s defence. Allowing 7 sacks for a total of 60 yards in losses, this isn’t the dominating team of the last 3 seasons. Bomber Fans, AKA Smurf Mafia, will be upset about this one, but that’s fine. 235 Yards and 6 points deserve a loss of a few positions. You’re only as good as your last game.
  5.  Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-1): The Riders were able to sneak one out against the Stamps. I still don’t understand gambling on third down instead of kicking an FG, going up six, and forcing the Stamps to score a major. But either way, squeaked out the win, and that gives them 5th
  6.  Calgary Stampeders (1-2): They didn’t deserve to even make it to overtime, in my opinion. Jake Maier just isn’t the guy. Maybe, Just Maybe, Dave has run out of the magical QB juice.
  7.  Ottawa Redblacks (0-2): What can I say other than, wow. The team has far to go.. but hey, the Point differential is better than Edmonton or Hamilton… so Yay?
  8.  Hamilton TigerCats(0-3): *Sigh* Four Down Bo goes down, and their backup… not any better. It’s tough to watch a team I had high hopes for…
  9.  Edmonton Elks (0-3): I have no words… good luck, Elk fans…
