Old Man Weekly Wisdom – Feb. 8th

I have been a die hard fan of both the BC lions and the Vancouver Canucks.  I remember watching the 1st ever Canucks game on TV in 1970. I was 6 years old, 52 years later I am still a diehard ‘nucks fan.  Thru all the crappy teams, the few great years, twice coming so close to winning the holy grail.  I have literally seen it all.  Most long time friends will tell you, there is no experience like watching a game with Kevin, his excitement and passion are contagious. Yes some folks ( including my girlfriend Alison) might say I can be obnoxious and loud, to those I say “ you call it loud I call it passionate”

Make it stand out

I start with that ramble because I want to ensure everyone knows I LOVE MY CANCUCKS BUT this year it has been hard to be a fan of this team. I still LOVE them but I am not liking them right now. In any organization, when things are spiraling out of control, you need to look at what is really happening. Since the 2011 ( oh God, that still hurts) we have been on a downward spiral.  We have fired coaches, GM’s, and still we spiral into the dark black hole.  How many times will we fire and trade players before we realize the true issue starts at the very top.  When I say the top I mean the OWNERS.  Mr Aquilini bought 50% of the team in 2004 then purchased the remaining 50% in 2006 sparking a nasty lawsuit that ended up going all the way to the Canadian Supreme Court.  That wouldn’t be his last time facing lawsuits, in 2019 it was found that Aquilini underpaid 174 migrant workers at their blueberry farm in Pitt Meadows BC.  He was ordered to pay 133,632.56 to the workers for back pay.  I mention all this to show this guy an upstanding citizen.  I won’t even get into his kids accusations.  When you have “An alleged” slime ball like this running an organization, it will trickle down. It is like putting a rotten apple in a basket of fresh ones, it doersn’t take long
